Is this game for you?

A plain account of what Dominions 6 asks of you, so you can decide before you spend time or money on it.

You will probably love it if…

  • You like reading the rules and then testing what they say.
  • You want every nation to play in its own strange way.
  • You want to design a god of your own and see what it does to a whole map.
  • You do not mind a slow game with a great deal going on under the surface.

You will probably bounce off it if…

  • You want a game that fits in an evening. A single-player game takes days, and a multiplayer game on a hosted server often runs a turn a day, for weeks or months.
  • You want to steer the battles. You cannot: you give each commander a short list of orders before the turn ends, then watch the fight play out.
  • You want an interface that looks current. This one is from another decade, and the screenshots below are unretouched.
  • You want the game to explain itself as you play. Most of that job falls to the manual, which is long.
  • You want to win your first game. You will probably lose it, and that is how most people learn.
