Red Coral is commonly used in enchanted items to protect against the bleeding caused by battle wounds, but it can just as easily be enchanted to cause bleeding. The coral sword has a bit of both enchantments, it will protect its wielder as well as cause bleeding that is very hard to stop in anyone it wounds.
